In June, Reeves Young’s Savannah Commercial team, alongside our partners at Thomas & Hutton, welcomed students and faculty from the Savannah Engineering Academy to the Chatham County Multi-Agency Public Safety Facility for a behind-the-scenes look at an active construction site.

The visit gave students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and see engineering and construction concepts come to life in the field. Wearing PPE and touring the project alongside members of the team, students learned about several key components of the construction process, including sitework, concrete, tilt panel systems, storm drainage, and the coordination required to keep a complex project moving safely and efficiently.

The project’s location also gave students a look at some of the unique challenges construction teams encounter in the field. With work taking place near an active airport, careful planning, communication, and safety coordination are essential throughout construction.

Beyond the technical aspects of the project, the visit provided an opportunity for students to see the variety of people and career paths it takes to bring a project from plans to reality. From engineers and project managers to superintendents and skilled tradespeople, successful projects depend on teams with different areas of expertise working toward a common goal.

For students already exploring engineering, the experience offered a firsthand look at how what they are learning today can translate into future careers and have a lasting impact on the communities around them.

At Reeves Young, opportunities like this are about more than showing students an active jobsite. They are a chance to invest in the next generation of our industry, share the knowledge of our teams and partners, and strengthen our relationships within the communities where we live and work.
